The AMA encourages physicians to access the following education and training resources to help end your state’s opioid epidemic. California (and Hawaii) have had the lowest per capita retail-filled opioid prescriptions in the United States in 2016.
Effective October 2, 2018, California physicians must consult California's PDMP (the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System, or CURES) – prior to prescribing Schedule II, III or IV controlled substances. The California Medical Association recently co-hosted a live CURES webinar with the California Department of Justice and the Medical Board of California regarding this new duty-to-consult requirement.
